Getting Started

I am not real sure where I am headed with this yet.  The past couple of mornings I have woke up with the desire to create a blog.  I know, that doesn't exactly make me sound like a cool guy.  But I suppose being cool is something that I have never really been accused of.

About a month ago I went in for a normal colonoscopy, well normal for me at least.  I was diagnosed almost 20 years ago with Crohn's disease.  I'm not going to go into detail about Crohn's because you can Google it and find all the information you would ever want to know about it.  Suffice it to say in my case it is an inflammation of my large intestine that has over the years caused me a lot of pain.  So with the diagnosis comes annual visits to the gastroenterologist and regular colonoscopies to make sure that the inflammation isn't causing any crazy damage.

While most of the colonoscopies that I have had over the years have only shown the inflammation, this most recent one indicated a blockage comprised of scar tissue and active Crohn's that blocked so much of my large intestine that the scope was unable to get by.  This caused concern from the Doctor and quite frankly was a wake up call for me.  You see I had gotten lazy.  Not lazy like laying around all the time, though I am guilty of that as well, but lazy in the fact that I had not been exercising my faith.

I have had the privilege over the years of hearing the Word.  Great ministers, well known ministers like Oral Roberts, Kenneth Copeland, Kenneth Hagin and Mark Brazee just to name a few. Garry and Reba Wilson, Mitch Horton and countless others have also made deposits in my life.  I have not lacked in hearing the good news of the Gospel.  The good news that God paid just as much for my health as He did for my salvation and the fact that He didn't ask me to choose one or the other.  The problem for me came in that I took it for granted.  I had stopped hearing and became one of those people that had heard.

Romans 10:17 says "So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God."  Note it says faith comes from hearing, not from having heard.  I have made it my goal to hear the Word daily, not just to rely on the messages I heard in the past.  Zig Ziglar has a famous quote - "People often say motivation doesn't last.  Well, neither does bathing - that's why we recommend it daily."  The Word is the same, it needs to be taken daily.

My goal moving forward with this blog is to share what I learn along the way.  To put out there the good news that God is good.  I intend on putting the Word in my heart and allowing it to produce what God intended it to, and in the process take what I have been blessed with and share it with others.  My hope is that people can take something useful from this blog, but at the very least it will be a place for me share my thoughts.  Feel free to share this blog with your friends or family, and check back periodically.
